Spice up your Look with Trendy Leg Warmers

Leg warmers are such helpful companions during this cold season. For those who has not been introduced with leg warmers yet, these are actually coverings for the lower part of the legs usually worn between the ankles to the bottom part of the knee. Leg warmers are just like socks, although thicker in nature and are usually footless. Some types of leg warmers do cover the foot area and these types have pads that will grip the floors to prevent dancers from slipping. Several years in the past, leg warmers were actually used by dancers like ballerinas to prevent their muscles from cramping and to prevent muscle injuries. However, there are no scientific data proving the efficacy of leg warmers in preventing injuries.

Leg warmers also have a history in fashion. During the 1980’s, the use of leg warmers became a fad as popularized by certain movies and the aerobics craze. Leg warmers were used during that era in a number of ways. Even today, we can still wear leg warmers for the purpose of style and comfort through the warmth it can give. I honestly am not sure as to how I can wear leg warmers without looking so old school. Luckily, I was able to source a few tips as to how we can rock the leg warmers this fall and winter for this year by still looking updated and fashionable. Sharing with you these tips now:

The first tip to wearing leg warmers to look fabulous in the year 2013 is to wear them with our usual modern choices of footwear like flats, pumps or boots. It’s also cool to go urban and wear it with modern sneakers like Converse as well.  Whatever look you are going for, the trick here is to be yourself and be comfortable as you can be.

Next is to wear leg warmers over tights and those trendy skinny jeans. Leg warmers do not have to hinder us from getting into the other trends such as skinny jeans. You can wear it with any pair of shoes you want as mentioned earlier. For another way in sticking to trends, you can wear it with a mini skirt as well. Same is true for dresses. You can wear it with tights or leggings only for the cold seasons. But if not, then you can rock it without the tights and leggings. Your choice of shoes with skirts and dresses are limitless too, depending on the look you want to achieve, flats for a casual look or pumps for a more sophisticated look.

If you’re opting for a boots, you can wear it above you ankle boots to create the illusion of wearing calf-high boots. It’s also nice to wear them peeking out of your cal-high boots. Wearing leg warmers with these boots add texture and warmth. The general rule is to let leg warmers stick out in about 2 to 6 inches.

For pulling off just the leg warmers and your chosen footwear to be trendy this year, the idea is to wear it crumpled, not stretched out. Wear it about 4-6 inches from the knee down to the ankles. And the ultimate rule to looking fabulous this year with leg warmers is to stick to neutral colors. During the 1980’s, leg warmers were bright as neons. But for our era, it’s best to stick with the neutrals. For all the tips mentioned above, bear in mind that neutral colored leg warmers and footwear are the best choice. You can play with different combinations of neutral colors from beige, brown, black and gray.

Have fun, stay comfortable and warm, and most important of all is to stay fashionably trendy.
